Description: This antique French Dragoon Saber or Sword is a rare find for collectors of militaria from the Revolutionary War period. It dates to ca. 1780 - 1790. With a length of 42.25 inches, this original piece is a great addition to any collection. The saber's design reflects its use as a weapon of war, with a sturdy handle and long curved blade designed to be wielded by a skilled soldier on horseback. Overall length is approximately 42 1/4”; the blade length is approximately 36”, both measuring on a straight line from tip to guard. The brass guard is a typical pattern used by the French from 1781 - 1790. It is stamped “PA” which may stand for Paris Arsenal, and was likely stamped when the sword went into arsenal inventory. The inside of the guard has a very small stamp “PARIS”. The blade has scattered pitting. Please see photos for description and condition. A very rare example.
