Description: LOCATION: ROANOKE, VIRGINIA AGE: circa 1907 - 1910s POSTCARD SUBJECT: "Market Square." This is a SCARCE view of the Roanoke City Market area as it appeared at the turn of the 20th century! This postcard likely shows the area opposite the railroad tracks from what would later be the location of the N&W call office building and the O. Winston Link Museum. Mill Mountain is visible in the distance at left. A building at left appears to be identified on a sign as the HARTSON BUILDING. The large building at right is FARMER'S SUPPLY COMPANY. A sign at the top of the building advertises STUDEBAKER WAGONS; long before it produced automobiles, Studebaker was one of the most successful wagon manufacturers in the United States. A vendor cart at bottom right bears a painted advertisement for ANTONE / GROCER. A great addition to your vintage Roanoke postcard collection! 5.5” x 3.5” Rare and unwritten on very good condition!
