The book set contains the extraordinary, official correspondence and reports related to the events at South Mountain and Antietam during the 1862 Antietam Campaign from September 3 to November 14, 1862. Principal events include South Mountain, Crampton's Pass, Harper's Ferry, Antietam, Kanawha Valley, Stuart's Raid, the Harper's Ferry Commission and the Fredericksburg Court of Inquiry. The set includes a chronology of events as well as the official reports. These include, but are not limited to, those associated with the events and/or battles throughout the campaign as well as other materials. The set covers operations in Northern Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania and other locations during this timeframe. This two-volume set provides extensive first-hand battlefield reports, orders and accounts on the actions of during these operations. The set contains the official correspondence from many of the key leaders from both the Union and Confederate armies associated with movements, preparation and battles at South Mountain and Antietam as well as other events associated with the campaign. Here are their orders, assessments, telegrams, correspondence and other materials, direct from the participants themselves. Included are combat preparations, the conduct of military operations and after action reports.
