Description: In the time of the ancient Roman Empire, in the BC years, and continuing through the AD years, life was fascinating. Through the last several decades, many movies set in that time period have been made. In the last several years, we've had even more movies made, as well as a few cable TV series. And these movies and series don't hold anything back, and they're all actually really good! In today's great deal, and just in time for holiday shopping, we have a massive bundle of Roman Empire era movies and two series! We start with 'Rome', HBO's historically actually depiction of the Julius Caesar times in ancient Rome. It's great, and since it's on cable, there's lots of sex and violence. But that aside, the storyline is fascinating and the acting is incredible! Great sets and costumes. This box set includes both season 1 and season 2. (They only made two seasons.) Another cable series is called 'Spartacus', based on the 1960 movie of the same name that's directed by Stanley Kubrick, and on the Starz network. The first season is called 'Spartacus: Blood and Sand', and stars Andy Whitfield as Spartacus, and also features Lucy Lawless, John Hannah, Manu Bennett, Jai Courtney, and Peter Mensah, among many others. Whitfield passed away from cancer in 2011, so a prequel was made and aired, called 'Gods of the Arena'. They replaced Whitfield for season three titled 'Spartacus: Vengeance', (officially known as season two, as 'Gods of the Arena' isn't technically a Spartacus season. Just made by the same people). Liam McIntyre took over as Spartacus in 'Vengeance'. And both actors did a fantastic job in the role! The last of the four series is called 'War of the Damned'. Then we move on to the movies. As the sequel to 'Gladiator', 'Gladiator 2' is in theaters now, we show some love for the first one, and the widescreen TWO disc special edition! The first disc is the film, and the second is chock full of bonus special features. Russell Crowe and Joaquin Phoenix are phenomenal in their roles. Plenty to be amazed by on this one! Next up is '300', and this is another great action-packed ancient adventure! Released in 2007. Directed by Zack Snyder, who's directed 'Justice League', 'Dawn of Justice (Batman V Superman)', 'Dawn of the Dead', 'Man of Steel', and several others. '300' is awesome. Bloody and violent, as well as intense. But still awesome! Then it's 'Troy', starring Brad Pitt, Orlando Bloom, Eric Bana, Diane Kruger, and Peter O'Toole, among a few others. Directed by Wolfgang Petersen, who's directed 'The Perfect Storm', 'Das Boot', 'Poseidon', 'Air Force One', and 'The NeverEnding Story', along with several others. This is actually a version of Homer's 'The Iliad', an ancient Greek poem. Truly spectacular acting, and the storyline, the sets, and the costumes are all amazing! This is also the TWO disc version, with one disc containing the 162 minute movie, and the second disc including tons of special features. The historical figure Alexander is here with director Oliver Stone's uncut, unrated, and uncensored version called 'Alexander Revisited: The Final Cut', released in '07. Starring Collin Farrell as Alexander. Also featuring Angelina Jolie, Jared Leto, Rosario Dawson, Val Kilmer, and Anthony Hopkins, among several others. The film is 214 minutes long, and this is the special TWO disc edition with plenty of special features! 'The Odyssey' is the last DVD in this bundle. It's a mini-series from 2001 (3 hours long). Adapted from Homer's 'The Odyssey'. Starring Armand Assante, Eric Roberts, Greta Scacchi, Christopher Lee, Bernadette Peters, Isabella Rossellini, and Vanessa Williams, among others. Greek mythology is what 'The Odyssey' is all about and I enjoyed every minute of it! The first Blu-ray is for the movie 'The Eagle'. Single disc Blu-ray, containing both the theatrical and the unrated versions. Starring Channing Tatum and Jamie Bell. Special features include an alternate ending, deleted scenes, and a featurette on the 'making of a Roman epic'. The other Blu-ray is a remake of the movie 'Ben-Hur, and is a combo with both a Blu-ray and a DVD. 'Ben-Hur' started out as a novel in 1880, then a silent short film in 1907. Another silent (full-length) film was made in 1925, plus an animated film in 2003. The most popular 'Ben-Hur' film came out in 1959, and starred Charlton Heston as the main character. Jesus Christ also plays a pivotal role in this movie. This Blu-ray for the 2016 remake included here is fantastic, and is loaded with realistic special effects. A classic story with great acting! Some of the discs in this bundle look new, and are still shiny and clean. Others have a few surface marks on them, but nothing too bad, or that will affect play. I have watched each one of these at some point during the past few years, and everything played fine. Some of the cases look great, while a few others have mild signs of wear. Three of the 'Spartacus' outer slipcovers are clear plastic, and a couple are showing wear. They are all either Region 1 or region free DVDs, and Region A or region free Blu-rays. Rated R, PG-13, or unrated. Everything is recommended for mature audiences or older teens and not young children. Bring home a big bundle of ancient Roman and Greek movies with action and drama.
