Description: This incredibly beautiful compote was created by master Italian ceramicist Aldo Londi for Bitossi Ceramiche. This 1960s centerpiece bowl was part of Londi's famed mid-century modern Rimini Blu series. Heavily glazed and heavy overall (at over 4 pounds in weight), this vibrant blue vessel features green paisley decoration around its footed portion. It stands 6.25 inches high, has a 7.25-inch center diameter and a 4.25-inch diameter at its base. From left to right, its width is about 10 inches. This piece is in excellent condition: There are no cracks and there are just a few extremely slight chips the size of a pen point that are more like a flaking of the glaze. There is crazing in spots (see last 3 photos), but its breathtaking color and high gloss make it difficult to spot unless you are inspecting the compote in bright light. With a finger you can feel both the smoothness and roughness of this Londi creation, including its dotted pattern, the bumps of the paisley design and its center, which has some pebble-like graininess. Its underside is marked at the bottom with a handpainted design number and the word "Italy" in black.
