Description: This is a antique, African Bakongo tribal people's handmade, male, wooden fetish statue which was collected from the Democratic Republic of Congo, Africa. African Bakongo fetishes are protective statues or figures used by tribal members, families, or the whole community. These powerful fetishes were kept outside the housing compound to guard the owner or owners from evil spirits, illness or bad intentions. This Bakongo piece has two metal nails one in each check, a mirror mounted on top of the stomach cavity which is surrounded by a circle of metal nails and it measures 17 inches tall by 6 1/2 inches wide and weighs 3 pounds and 15 ounces. This fetish nail fetish specimen is in great although slightly worn condition with some cracks in the wood and one in the mirror and it leans a bit to the back when displayed on a hard surface.
