Description: For sale is a gorgeous and very rare 1996 U.S. Mint Prestige Proof Set in the original Mint packaging. The Mint released this set as part of the Prestige set series that ran from 1983 to 1997. They were basically regular proof sets with the inclusion of any Commemorative coins that were released that year. This 1996 set is the rarest of all the Prestige Sets because of their low mintages of just 55,000 sets. And so many sets were cracked open to send out the Olympic Dollar to get graded because that coin is very rare, and the main reason why the set is so rare and valuable. In this 1996 set it includes all the regular proof coins from 1996, and then as mentioned above it also includes the 1996 Olympics Rowing Commemorative 90% Silver Dollar & Olympics Soccer Half Dollar, for a total of 7 Proof Coins. This set comes housed in the original government case, which is a very nice felt case made to look like a book, and the outer box and the certificate of authenticity. The coins in this set are in just about perfect shape! They all have that gorgeous mirror image and frosty deep cameo reliefs you expect from high quality proof coins. The Dollar has a little ghost toning which is very common for proof coins from this era, but they have no major blemishes. This set is a very nice way to get all the 1996 Proof Coins AND a very rare Commemorative silver Dollar all in one shot! Thanks!
