Description: 1973 First Edition Jessie Lee’s Be Beautiful Very Limited & Rare Publication. Almost every page is beautifully illustrated in black & white sketch style, by Betty Peak. Lee even includes Peak in her dedications for giving “expression to [her] dreams”. Jessie Lee Sharpley (1993-2007) was known for being “the first woman in Lubbock [TX] to ever charge for a haircut...” A successful entrepreneur and pioneer of women’s fashion, Sharpley also adds to her talents the title of award winning cosmetologist, educator and t.v. personality. She began her career in hair design in the 1950’s. In 1952, she won several 1st place awards for cutting and styling, at the National Competition in Chicago, Ill. She opened the Hair Design Institute in Lubbock, TX in 1956 and is a member of the Texas Hall of Fame. This work of Sharpley’s consists of 169 pages of hair design, cutting techniques, wig fashion, makeup artistry and application, skin care regime, the use of clothing fashion to dress according to one’s body type, overall health and well-being, ladies etiquette and a few entertaining tidbits true to the era in which it was written. The book is in good condition, with light wear and a small tear to the bottom of the spine binding (see photos!!). Two small spots on cover. The first few pages have detached from the binding (see photos) but could be easily re-adhered. Otherwise, all pages are clean and free of any writing, tears or folds of any kind. This is a wonderfully educational book, loaded with information on classic beauty principles. Jessie Lee’s Be Beautiful will never go out of style!!!
