Volume two holds frontispiece, 52 plates with tissue guards and 1 illustration in the text. Collated complete. Christie's auction house was founded in 1766 by James Christie, a , with the earliest auction catalogue from December of that year. Now, with premises in London, New York and Hog Kong, it is a renowned auction house. The 'Salvator Mundi' was sold for $400 million at Christie's in New York, at the time the highest price ever paid for a single painting at an auction. This work reviews all sales between 1766 and 1896. CONDITION In the original brown cloth binding. Externally, smart with light shelf wear and bumping to the extremities. Volume one has light fraying to the head of the spine and the odd small mark to the board. Volume two is rubbed to the joints, they remain firm. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright and clean throughout with light age toning to the extremities.
