Description: Exccedingly Rare Commission Document printed by Francis Baily. The document is for two persons ( Alexander Fodnand & Robert Wharton) as Alderman in the city of Philadelphia. Dated Auguist 13th 1805 and signed; James Trimble who was the First Deputy Secretary of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Robert Wharton (January 12, 1757 – March 7, 1834) was the longest-serving mayor of Philadelphia. Francis Bailey was a member of the Bailey family of printers, an important printing family in the early history of the United States. He was one of the first printers to use the Caslon type, which Benjamin Franklin had brought back from London upon his return to Philadelphia in the 1760s, and established himself to become one of the official printers of the new country and of the State of Pennsylvania.
