He is dressed in period clothing, including a green jacket with a brown vest and a green hat. The man’s expression is serious and somewhat introspective as he looks slightly to the right of the viewer. In his right hand, he holds a thin, delicate pipe, exhaling a wisp of smoke that curls into the air. Behind him, partially obscured in the shadows, is another figure with a slightly smiling face. This figure, whose features are less defined due to the darker tones, adds an element of mystery to the painting. A jug or pitcher is also visible behind the main figure, contributing to the domestic atmosphere. No visible signature. Painting is in good/antique condition and has stable craquelure. Relined.
