Description: Presented is an antique set of 11 sterling silver demitasse or coffee spoons made by the Whiting Manufacturing Company during the late 19th century. This set is in done in the Laureate pattern, which was patented in 1890. This set was made before the patent date, as the stamp is "patent applied for" . Each handle is cast with pretty ivy leaves and small flower medallions. The front of each handle has an old, original monogram of the letter S. The back of each spoon is marked for Whiting, patent applied for(therefore made before the patent was granted, so 1889 or 1890), sterling silver purity and bears a retailer’s mark for M.W. Shaw. This set is in excellent condition and the designs are crisp. There is some minor wear to the gold wash on the back of some of the bowls. Length: 4 inches. Weight: 110 grams.
